When Bridgeport succeeds, Trumbull succeeds. When Bridgeport succeeds, Monroe succeeds.
As your State Senator, I will propose forming a new regional legislative caucus with legislators from Greater Bridgeport, including Bridgeport, Stratford, Shelton, Trumbull, Monroe, Easton, and Fairfield. This caucus would meet to discuss formulating
policy, competing for state and federal grants, and eliminating the urban/suburban divide.
On issue after issue, we are in this together. When we work together, we will succeed.
Floodwaters don’t stop at our town borders. If Old Town Road floods, it affects both Trumbull and Bridgeport. If the Pequonnock River overflows, it’s a problem for Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe. Better culverts in Trumbull benefit Bridgeport, and improved drainage in Bridgeport prevents water from backing up into Trumbull.
When Bridgeport succeeds, Trumbull succeeds. When Bridgeport succeeds, Monroe succeeds.
Economic Development
In addition to the AMP and the Arena, Bridgeport has two beautiful theaters, the Palace and the Majestic, which, if restored, could grow Bridgeport's reputation as an arts and culture destination. Attractive housing around the theaters requires urban planning and state and federal grant funding. A regional legislative caucus pushing for this funding would be more powerful than Bridgeport alone, increasing the chances of a downtown renaissance and providing more housing options. Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe would all benefit. Improved downtown housing would help preserve single-family homes, preventing overdevelopment in Black Rock, Brooklawn, and the North End, as well as Trumbull and Monroe.
When Bridgeport succeeds, Trumbull succeeds. When Bridgeport succeeds, Monroe succeeds.
Sacred Heart University’s expansion has brought economic and cultural benefits but also increased demand for off-campus housing and storage, impacting Bridgeport’s North End. But this trend also affects Fairfield, Trumbull, and even Easton. Regional legislators can facilitate cooperation between town and city councils and zoning commissions to find solutions that meet Sacred Heart students' needs without sacrificing our communities' character.
When Bridgeport succeeds, Trumbull succeeds. When Bridgeport succeeds, Monroe succeeds.
